On October 12-13, STRI contributed to a seminar on “Export Control of Dual-use Materials and Technologies in Central Asia” sponsored by the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) in conjunction with the Industrial Development and Industrial Safety Committee of the Ministry of Investments and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the context of a new European Union funded project on export control on dual-use items.
The seminar facilitates information and experience sharing among the participating countries. The seminar defined specific areas of common interest of the stakeholders such as the setup of appropriate legal frameworks and institutional mechanisms, authorizing and licensing of exports, the role of higher education specialized courses for successful capacity-
building and ways that exporters can ensure internal compliance procedures and apply control measures already at the production stage.
