STRATEGIC TRADE REVIEW

Strategic Trade Information Hub

STRI is currently working on a project compiling high-quality, comprehensive information sources on United Nations Security Council resolution 1540-related strategic trade controls controls that will be publicly accessible on the Global Partnership against the Spread of Weapons of Mass Destruction website. The project kicked off January 2022 and aims to fill a critical resource gap by helping governments and other stakeholders locate information easily and efficiently and facilitate its application to the implementation of effective counterproliferation export controls. The Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction (the Global Partnership) is a G7-led, 31-member international initiative aimed at preventing the proliferation of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) weapons and related materials.

Preventing the Proliferation of Critical Advanced Conventional Weapons Components

STRI's Dr. Andrea Viski works as a subject matter expert with CRDF Global, an independent nonprofit organization that promotes safety, security, and sustainability through science and innovation, on the project "Preventing the Proliferation of Critical Advanced Conventional Weapons Components" since 2021. The project assists institutions in Southeast Asia in countering efforts by proliferator states to divert advanced conventional weapons (ACW) components and technology to military end users. As part of the project, Dr. Viski published a short article on "Advanced Conventional Weapons and Emerging Technologies: Recognizing and Preempting Proliferation Threats." The article can be found here. Dr. Viski works closely with CRDF Global on a number of other projects as well, and is pleased to be an Affiliated Expert with the organization.
