On November 13, STRI took part in a panel discussion hosted by the National Security Law Journal, the Antonin Scalia Law School, and the National Security Institute, on the contemporary uses of targeted sanctions as a foreign policy tool. The other expert panelists included NSI’s founder, Jamil Jaffer, Adam Smith of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, and Professors Gregory Koblentz and Mark Katz of George Mason University. The discussion focused on the ways that targeted sanctions are used in specific situations, their effectiveness, and differences between multilateral, regional and unilateral sanctions.
