Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence and Strategic Trade Controls

STRI and the Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland (CISSM) held a dialogue on Artificial Intelligence and Strategic Trade Controls on March 9-10 at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center in Washington DC. Attendees included major export control stakeholders from the U.S. government as well as industry experts. Attendees discussed policy options for the management of artificial intelligence/machine learning technologies as well as security risks associated with them. The event also allowed attendees to connect; representatives from the Department of Commerce, Department of State, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and more engaged with industry and research leaders in the AI/ML space. STRI and CISSM will publish a technical report on AI/ML and strategic trade controls in June 2020, building on input from the dialogue.
