Strategic Trade Review Special Issue:

Emerging Technologies and Strategic Trade Controls

Manuscript Submission Deadline: October 31, 2019

Call for Papers: The Strategic Trade Review is seeking manuscripts for a special issue dedicated to emerging technologies. The objective of the special issue is to publish knowledge and perspectives across export controls and sanctions stakeholder communities regarding the implications of emerging technologies and contribute high quality peer reviewed literature to the policy-making process.

Suggested areas of focus for articles are as follows:

  • WMD proliferation threats and risks linked to emerging technologies;
  • The role of exporters and potential mechanisms for private-public partnerships;
  • Defining emerging and foundational technologies and development of criteria;
  • Comparative analysis across technologies in the strategic trade context;
  • How current strategic trade structures, mechanisms, and processes can more effectively contribute to reducing risks from emerging technologies – or whether new structures/mechanisms, or reform to current ones, is necessary;
  • Innovative ideas offering alternatives to list-based controls, outreach, and best practices;
  • Projecting the impact of technologies, and identifying further new technologies, in the strategic trade context, over a five to ten-year time frame.

Manuscripts can be submitted in the form of research articles or practitioners’ perspectives. Further information on the Strategic Trade Review and style guidelines can be found here.
